Welcome to Retirement Wishes! I’m glad you were able to find me here. My name is George and I created this website to help folks who were getting close to retirement. If you’ve already retired, don’t worry, there’s plenty of info here for you as well. In addition to retirement planning, I cover a variety of topics including everything from retirement communities to retirement gifts.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to do proper retirement planning. Don’t just assume everything will work out and you’ll have enough money. Too many people fall into that trap and regret it down the road. Get your finances in order early and keep them that way. To get you started check out this article – Financial Tips for a Happy Retirement.
Make All Your Your Retirement Wishes Come True
For those of you nearing retirement, it’s time to start thinking about some of your retirement wishes. Retirement signals the beginning of a new part of your life. And like every other part, you should be prepared and have a clear idea about what you want to do. And I’m not talking about the financial aspect of it. Though that is certainly important and absolutely must be planned for. I’m talking about the fun parts. Retirement offers you the opportunity to do all the things you’ve always dreamed of, but never thought you had the time for. Whether you are nearing your retirement age or you’ve already reached it, there’s no reason you can’t make all your retirement wishes come true.
You deserve a happy retirement. The worst thing you could do is nothing. Far too many people go through life imagining all the things they wish they could see or do if only they had more time. Well now you’ve got it. There are no more excuses. You have the freedom to go fishing every day, take a cooking class, learn a new language, do volunteer work, play golf whenever you want, travel around the world, or even pick up that guitar that you’ve always wanted to learn how to play. The sky is the limit. And feel free to take that literally if your retirement wishes include flying a plane.
It’s Never too Late to Live Your Life
I admit that I have a bit of an advantage when it comes to fulfilling my retirement wishes. I made a decision long ago not to wait until retirement to do all of the things I’ve dreamt of. Therefore I’ve already traveled to more than 20 countries and done some pretty incredible things. I ate pizza in Rome, drank beer in Munich, ran with the bulls in Pamplona, went ice-climbing in the Swiss Alps, swam in the blue grotto of Capri, danced all night in Ibiza, went elephant trekking in Chiang Mai, went mountain climbing in Korea, walked along the Great Wall of China, trekked in the Himalayas, went scuba diving in the Philippines, and the list goes on. After experiencing all of these amazing things, I still feel like they are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many more things I want to do before I’m done. For me, fulfilling my retirement wishes will be easy because I know it can be done. Unfortunately for a lot of people, retirement wishes or not, fear will prevent them from enjoying their lives. Taking that first step towards your dreams is extremely difficult for some people. Just remember it’s a lot easier to do than you think. And most importantly, don’t let anyone else tell you that you can’t. Just because they are too scared to enjoy their life, doesn’t mean you have to be too. Whether you’ve been retired for years or you are just starting, it is never too late. As the famous Nike slogan goes, just do it!
Popular Retirement Wishes
Believe or not, there are many people who don’t want to give up working. There’s nothing wrong with that if you find your work fulfilling and enjoy being around your coworkers. If, on the other hand, you are just interested in finding something to keep you busy, then there are plenty of options out there for you. Volunteering or finding a part-time job can be a great way to stay active. Some common volunteer opportunities are found at churches, hospitals, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and animal shelters. Those are all wonderful ways to give back to your community. If, however, your retirement wishes are a bit bolder, then perhaps you’d enjoy volunteering at a national park, working as a movie extra, becoming an usher at a concert theater, or even volunteering abroad. There are numerous opportunities out there.
Among all the retirement wishes that people look forward to most, including me, is the opportunity to travel. The volunteer option listed above is certainly an excellent way you can see the world. Another great way is through a tour company that specializes in senior travel. Some of the best ones are Elderhostel, Grand Circle Travel, Grand European Tours, and the budget conscious YMT Vacations. Elderhostel in particular is a favorite of mine because they focus on educational travel. You’ll be surrounded by knowledgeable tour guides and expert locals as you travel with Elderhostel. If you are looking to stay a little bit closer to home, don’t worry, most of these tour companies offer regional trips around the United States as well.
Joining a community club is another excellent way to enjoy your retirement. It allows you the opportunity to meet new people, and it often opens the doors to a variety of exciting activities. Some of these clubs, like the Red Hat Society for women, plan local trips, organize social gatherings, and just bring people together to have fun. Other clubs are organized for a specific purpose, like hiking clubs or traveling clubs. If you don’t have a club in your area that you like, then you can simply start your own. Most national organizations like the Red Hats or ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) encourage people to create local chapters.
This article only touches on a few of the many ways that you can enjoy your retirement. There is a world of opportunities out there for all retirees on any budget. All you have to do is take advantage of them and your retirement wishes will be fulfilled.
